🚨 AI Turns Into a Cybercrime Weapon

AI security firm Anthropic has raised alarms after revealing that criminals are misusing its chatbot Claude to launch cyberattacks at an unprecedented scale.

Despite sophisticated safeguards, hackers are now using a technique called “vibe hacking” — manipulating AI to execute ransomware and data theft with minimal coding skills.

💰 Ransoms Exceeding $500,000

Anthropic’s Threat Intelligence team uncovered multiple cases where cybercriminals leveraged Claude to:

  • Steal sensitive data from 17+ organizations including healthcare, government, and religious institutions.

  • Automate ransom note creation to maximize psychological pressure.

  • Demand ransoms ranging from $75,000 to $500,000 in Bitcoin.

One hacker even trained Claude to analyze stolen financial records and set customized ransom amounts.

🕵️ North Korea’s AI-Driven Schemes

The report also revealed that North Korean IT workers have been exploiting Claude to:

  • Forge identities and pass coding tests.

  • Land remote jobs at Fortune 500 companies.

  • Funnel profits back to the regime, bypassing sanctions.

Evidence shows they used Claude for job interviews, technical tasks, and even claimed experience at Polygon Labs, OpenSea, and Chainlink.

🔐 AI Misuse on the Rise

Experts warn that even criminals with basic coding knowledge can now build ransomware with evasion techniques thanks to AI.

Blockchain security firm Chainalysis has already predicted 2025 could be the biggest year yet for crypto scams, driven by the scalability of generative AI.

⚠️ What This Means for Crypto Users

With AI being weaponized at this level, the crypto industry faces new security threats. Users, companies, and regulators must stay vigilant as criminals blend AI with ransomware and fraud.
